The gym opens every evening at 4:30 pm. Classes start from 5:30. The time before classes is often used for warm-ups such as skipping, jogging and sprints. It can also be a good time to revise previous sessions and practice specifics with your team mates.
Fitness and Strength work
If you are late, early or just want to work your own session you can use the gym in areas not occupied by the classes. We have a special ‘solo’ training area at the back that has all your Bags, Balls, Mirrors, timers and Fitness/Rehab/strength equipment. As well as a TV.
We can write up programs and show you how to use all the powerlifting and stretching equipment we have. These session’s focuses on the athletic elements of Martial Arts, including fitness, speed and co ordination. You will use strength equipment such as strongman logs and Atlas stones. We also combine wrestling and Boxing drills for strength and endurance.
Boxing / Muay Thai
We use an advanced system of striking that is stylaized for Mixed Martial Arts as well as being successful in both Muay Thai and Boxing competitions. There are several key differences in the approach to striking for MMA as opposed to the orthodox styles often used in the sports of Boxing and Muay thai, Stance, guard, defence, range and combinations all have to be modifide. This creates an un-orthadox and advanced style of stand up striking that combines the footwork and style of Boxing with the kicks, elbows and knees of Muay Thai and the athleticism and timing of Tae kwon Do.
Wrestling / Brazilian Jiu jitsu
The grappling for MMA is very diffrent to the way Brazilian Jiu jitsu is generally taught now. We train totally without the Gi and with MMA positioning in mind. The submission and transitions that work in MMA grappling are very difftrent to sport Jiu Jitsu, this in many ways simplifies the grappling style as some more of the modern ‘techniques’ that competition Jiu Jitsu has developed and the grip play of a Gi are no longer relevant. Much time is spent on escape, transitions and takedowns.
Sparring and Rolling
Rather than regular intense sparring we reserve the last Friday of every Month for this. We also travel to other clubs at times or do more regular sparring if there are fights coming up. Although there is some light sparring and partner work throughout the week we save the main sparring for a time that everyone can prepare
