Brazilian Jiu Jitsu PERTH: Classes
What is BJJ?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) was made famous by the Gracie Family in 1994 when Royce Gracie won the first UFC event with a series of submissions from the ground often form his back. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a must know martial art for people interested in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or Martial Arts for self defense and fitness. To Progress trough the belts takes much longer than traditional Martial Arts, keeping with international standards, people will know if you have a belt it you deserve it.
We focus on wrestling and submissions for MMA so unlike most of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Perth has to offer we do not wear a GI. Our BJJ classes are run in the traditional Brazilian manner with the first half an hour assigned to warmup drills and stretching. The middle of the class is spent coaching techniques and positions with the coach showing the different level students advanced or beginner options as needed. The last part of the class is usually spent competing or ‘Rolling’ as its known in the BJJ world.
Who is it suited for?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone, it was designed to be an effective self defense system for smaller individuals to defeat larger aggressors. As such, men, women and children of any age or size are able to train and enjoy BJJ. If you are interested, sign up now online or come in to the club and we will suggest a coach and class times that are best suited for you.
What to bring?
To you first class it is not necessary to buy any equipment, we suggest you wear board shorts and a shirt preferably. In time as you take you BJJ more seriously and want to ‘roll’ or progress up the belts you will need a mouth guard and a grappling uniform better known as a ‘Gi’.
